PH ranks higher as innovation achiever, says GII report
The Philippines rises to spot 54 in the latest Global Innovation Index — a good 19 places from last year’s number 73 out of 129 countries. It ranked below India by 2 spots.
Scoring 36.18 out of 100, this result from GII measures a country’s innovation capacity and success. With the exception of “market sophistication”, the score is above average in all dimensions of innovation. Countries with the highest GII rankings are the United States, 61.73 points; Sweden, 63.65; and Switzerland, 67.24.
The Philippines was also the best producer of “high-tech net exports” in 15 economies in Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Oceania. The country also received high scores in trademarks, creative good export, and the number of women employed with advanced degrees. In terms of exporting information and communications technology (ICT) services and creative goods, the country ranked 8th.
